Patna : New Zealand (NZ) were 286/3 in 85 overs at stumps on Day 2 in their first innings in the 2nd test against Pakistan at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on January 4, 2021, as captain Kane Williamson scored an unbeaten 112 runs in 175 balls with 16 fours, his 24th test century, while Henry Nicholls was unbeaten on 89 in 186 balls with 8 fours. Pakistan were all out for 297 in their first innings on Day 1. NZ trail by 11 runs.

Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls have so far added 215 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket. NZ were 71/3 at one stage but Williamson and Nicholls steadied the innings weathering the storm.

Openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell added 52 runs for the first wicket. But, Blundell fell to medium fast bowler Faheem Ashraf for 16 making it 52/1. Tom Latham also fell at the same score to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for 33 in 71 balls with 4 fours and it was 52/2. Ross Taylor fell to fast medium bowler Mohd Abbas foe 12 and it was 71/3.
