Patna : Opener Tom Latham was unbeaten on 101 in 164 balls with 15 fours, his 11th test century, as New Zealand (NZ) reached 173/3 in 54.3 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 in the 2nd test against England at Seddon Park, Hamilton, New Zealand, on November 29, 2019. The play was called off soon after the start of the third session due to heavy rains. England won the toss and opted to bowl.

Batting first, NZ lost their first wicket that of opener Jeet Raval when the score was 16. Raval fell to Stuart Broad for 5. Captain Kane Williamson fell to Chris Woakes for 4 and it was 39/2. Ross Taylor also fell to Chris Woakes for 53 in 100 balls with 8 fours. Tom Latham and Taylor added 116 runs for the 3rd wicket. Henry Nicholls was unbeaten on 5 at stumps. NZ lead the two-match test series 1-0.
