Ara : An FIR has been lodged with Nawada police station, Ara in Bhojpur district, in connection with demand of Rs 50 lakh as extortion (Randgari) from an Ophthalmologist Dr Abhishek Kumar but no arrest has so far been made in this connection.

A criminal has demanded Rs. 50 lakh from Dr Abhishek Kumar, son of an ophthalmologist Dr S K Kedia of Ara. Dr Abhishek Kumar has been threatened with dire consequence if the amount is not paid within three months.

Dr S K Kedia said that a criminal Raju Kumar, Kankarbagh, Patna, sent a letter two days back from a post office at Patna to his son Dr Abhishek Kumar, demanding Rs 50 lakh as ‘Rangdari’. Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar said investigation is going on and the miscreant would not be spared at any cost.

Meanwhile, secretary, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ara branch, Dr Madhukar Prakash and Secretary, Bihar Health Service Association, Dr B K Shukla said that the rising trend of demanding rangdari from the doctors is a matter of concern. They threatened to launch an aggressive agitation if stern action is not taken against the miscreant at the earliest.
