Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday said he would be touring entire Uttar Pradesh (UP) to seek people’s support for his anti-liquor campaign. Nitish said he would be at Kanpur on Friday and at Etawah, the constitutency of UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav next day.
Talking to medipersos after the conclusion of the monsoon session of Bihar legislature, Nitish defended enforcement of total prohibition in Bihar and claimed it was motivated not by political considerations but due to his commitment to social reforms. He appealed to PM Narendra Modi to enforce prohibition in the country.
Nitish said the resignation by his Gujarat counterpart Anandiben Patel was internal issue of the BJP. His party has supported the Patidar’s agitation launched by Hardik Patel in Gujarat. The agitation has exposed the so called Gujarat model of development, Nitish said.
In the monsson session of the state legislature, 12 Bills were passed. One of the them was the Bihar Excise Bill which provides for arrest of all adult family members for recovery of liquor in the house or premises and community punishment for the entire villagers for violation of the provisions of the Act. The two houses also passed a legislation for creation of three new universities-Pataliputra, Purnia and Animal husbandry universitity. A bill to raise VAT on 150 items was also passed. Bihar Assembly Speaker Bijay Kumar Chaudhary said the assembly secretariat had received 755 questions of which 59 were answered in the session which started on July 29.Bihar legislative council too was adjourned sine die.
