Patna : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on August 17, 2017, recommended for a CBI probe into fraudulent transfer of over Rs 600 crore into the account of a Bhagalpur based NGO Srijan Mahila Sahyog Vikas Samiti. The CM recommended for a CBI probe into the scam after holding discussion with top officials including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP and IG, EOU.

At present, the Economic Offence Unit (EOU) was probing into the racket running since 2007. Police have so far arrested 11 persons including District Welfare Officer, Bhagalpur, and Manager, Srijan, Sarita Jha. Police are also searching for a former Special Land Acquisition Officer, Bhagalpur, Rajiv Ranjan. The NGO used to earn interest on the fund transferred to it while keeping the principal amount intact. Srijan is operating in around 12 districts including Saharsa. The NGO was established by late Manorma Devi.

RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and his son and former Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav had also demanded CBI probe into the scam.

Bihar police on August 17 issued a lookout notice has been issued against NGO secretary Priya Kumar and her husband Amit Kumar. The lookout notice has been sent to all the airports of the country to prevent them from leaving the country, according to Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) S K Singhal.
