Patna : CM Nitish Kumar, who reviewed paddy procurement for 2017-18 in Bihar on November 21, 2017, said the government was committed to ensure the farmers gets maximum benefits from paddy procurement. The CM also warned of stern action against Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACSs) if found guilty of any irregularity in the procurement. He issued instructions that under no circumstances farmers be forced to sell their produce at low prices.
The CM also issued directive for accelerating the procurement process and to take steps for seeking the Centre’s approval for raising the moisture content limit. Deputy CM Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Minister for cooperatives Randhir Singh, Minister for Food and Consumer Protection Madan Sahni and Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh also attended the meeting.
Principal Secretary, Cooperative, Amrit Lal Meena said registration of farmers, which had begun on September 19, has so far covered 68,000 cultivators. Meena said that 40 PACS/Vyapar Mandals had been provided dryer machines to deal with the problem of high moisture content.
