Bagaha : Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on August 17, 2017, made an aerial survey of flood hit areas of West Champaran district and then stopped at Bettiah, the district headquarters, for a while and inspected Maharaja town hall where food packets are being prepared for distribution among the flood victims. The CM did not speak to mediapersons, who had gathered there to take his statement on the flood and relief measures undetaken in the district.
Meanwhile, Bagaha Sub- division Nodal Officer, Flood Relief, Jai Chandra Yadav said that 50 panchayats of seven blocks under the sub-division had been affected and 20,774 people had taken shelter at various relief camps. Seventyeight boats including 56 private ones had been pressed into service to rescue the flood victims. The nodal officer said that free kitchens for feeding flood victims were being run at Jiganahi, Machhaha and Chandarpur East and breached point of PP embankment, Piparasi.
The Bagaha Nodal Officer said that a free kitchen was opened at Shripatinagar too but flood victims looted the foodgrains and other materials. Hundreds of flood victims of Piparasi block are being fed by free kitchen centre opened by Kushinagar district administration in Uttar Pradesh.
About 145 quintal flat rice, 31 quintal gur and 2,159 pieces of match boxes had been distributed among flood victims till August 17.
