Muzaffarpur : Around 50,000 people are trapped in flood in 32 panchatays of Muzaffarpur district. The number of flood affected people is about 4 lakh in the district. DM Dharmendra Singh said that the NDRF teams have so far rescued 9,000 people of 32 flood affected panchayats and taken them to safer places.

Thirteen panchayats under Aurai block, 14 under Katra and five under Sahebganj have been devastated by the flood in Bagmati and Lakhandei rivers. The flood has damaged standing crops on 1,50,613 hectare in the district.

The DM said that relief materials were reaching the flood affected people at faster pace. That apart, 39 relief camps have also been set up in 59 panchayats of the district. All the relief camps have required medicine and readymade food packets are being distributed among the flood victims, the DM said and added that 102 government and privated boats were plying in the flood affected areas.

Fourteen districts of Bihar including Araria, Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Supaul, Saharsa, West Champaran, East Champaran and Darbhanga are reeling under flood. Acording to an official figure, the flood has so far claimed 72 lives in these district.
