Patna : In a bid to develop over 1,675 bed Patna Medical College & Hospital (PMCH) as the biggest hospital in the country, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on February 8, 2021, laid foundation of a Rs 5,540 crore project on the hospital campus.

The new hospital will have 5,462 bed.  The Chief Minister said that the project would be completed in five years in three phases and asked the officials to work in that direction. After the project is completed, no patient would need to go outside state for treatment, Nitish said.

The  CM said that he has been attached to PMCH since his student days and used to visit the campus to meet his friends at the medical college . He said that a committe of experts had been constituted to suggest ways to develop PMCH as the biggest hospital in the country. Nitish said that the state government has decided to increased beds at NMCH, SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, and ANMMCH, Gaya,

Union Communication Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Bihar  Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad, and Health Minister Mangal Pandey also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
