Patna : JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar on Sunday launched the membership campaign of the party by enrolling himself as primary member by paying Rs five to the state party president Bashistha Narain Singh. At a programme held at JD(U) office here, Nitish re-admitted Singh as primary member and Singh re-enrolled Nitish as party member.
Nitish said former party president Sharad Yadav was enrolled as member at Supaul in North Bihar by energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. For Sunday, the party has a target of enrolling 25 lakh members in Bihar.
By June 30, 50 lakh members would be admitted in JD(U) in the state, according to Singh. He said for the first time enrolment was being done at booth levels where the party legislators, MPs and other leaders were present to enrol members for a token fee of Rs 5 as primary membership fee.Nitish himself signed 100 receipts and handed over to the newly admitted members mostly youths at party office on Bir Chand Patel Path.
