Patna: Tension continued in National Institute of technology(NIT) Patna on Monday necessitating deployment of Rapid Action Force. Tension erupted on Sunday night following protests by the students who were agitated over molestation bid on a girl student by a labourer engaged in construction of the hostel building.
Assistant director of the NIT has lodged an FIR against a labourer who managed to escape .The girl, in her complaint, said the labourer pulled her down from fifth floor and tried to molest her. When she screamed, other students came and saved her.
Boarders of both boys and girls hostels assembled in the field and started protests against the construction company. NIT director Ashok Dey said the NIT hostel is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 31 and painting work was going on.
Students had pelted police ehicle with stones demanding arrest of the accused and safety in the hostels. There is no women warden in the hostel, they alleged and regretted the statement of the management which blamed the girl for the incident by telling her “she was wearing skirt inviting trouble”.
