Patna : World No 12 Kei Nishikori, 28, Japan, World No 25 Richard Gasquet, 32, France, World No 31 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, and World No 32 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, entered the semi-finals of Japan Open tennis championship at Tokyo on October 5, 2018.

Two time champion Nishikori beat fast rising player and World No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Nishikori served 6 Aces in the match to 4 by Tsitsipas, who committed 5 double faults. Nishikori also won 4 break points to just one by his rival. Nishikori also won 6 games in a row.

Gasquet upset World No 9 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, 7-6, 7-6 in the quarter-finals. Anderson though fired 22 Aces in the match to just 6 by Gasquet. Gasquet, on the other hand, committed 7 double faults to just 1 by Anderson. Both the players won 2 break points each. Gasquet won 3 games in a row while Anderson won 2. Gasquet will play Nishikori in the semi-finals on October 6.

Daniil Medvedev upset World No 20 Milos Raonic, 27, Canada, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarter-finals.Raonic though fired 14 Aces in the match to just 2 by Medvedev. Raonic committed 2 double faults. Medvedev won 3 games in a row in the match.

Shapovalov beat World No 56 Jan-Lennard Struff, 28, Germany, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Shapovalov fired 16 Aces in the match to 9 by Struff. Shapovaloc committed 4 double faults in the match to 3 by Struff. Both the players won 1 break point each. Shapovalov won 6 games in a row in the match while Struff won 5. Shapovalov will play Medvedev in the SF on October 6, 2018.
