Patna : Two-time former champion and World No 7 Kei Nishikori, 29, Japan, entered the 3rd round of ATP Barcelona Open at Barcelona, Spain, on April 23, 2019.
Fourth seed Nishikori beat World No 58 Taylor Fritz, 21, USA, 7-5, 6-2 in the second round. Fritz though fired 8 Aces in the match to just 1 by Nishikori. Nishikori, however, broke Fritz’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke his service only once. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Fritz. Nishikori won 48 service points to 39 by Fritz. But, Nishikori also committed 3 double faults.
World No 83 Alberto Ramos- Vinolas, 31, Spain, and former Top 10 player David Ferrer, 37, 155 rank, Spain, advanced to the 2nd round of the clay court tournament on April 23.
Ramos-Vinolas beat World No 45 Cameron Norrie, 23, Britain, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. Ferrer, the World No 155, defeated World No 96 Mischa Zverev, 31, Germany, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. Ferrer broke Mischa Zverev’s service 4 times in the match.
