New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) much sought after month long ‘Winter Internship Programme’ on human rights for university and college students concluded in New Delhi on January 17, 2018. Altogether 49 interns including 25 girls and 24 boys from 15 States of the country attended this programme, which began on December 19, 2017. The objective of the internship is to raise awareness among the students about human rights and sensitise them on various related issues.

Addressing the valedictory session, Ambuj Sharma, Secretary General, NHRC, congratulated the interns on successful completion of internship. He expressed hope that the interns would contribute to the Commission’s endeavour towards the promotion and protection of human rights by being ambassadors of human rights. He lauded their efforts in preparing research studies on important issues of human rights, which he said would be useful material for further analysis by the Research Wing of the Commission, according to an NHRC release.

Later, he gave away the certificates of internship and the cash awards for the best interns. The first award of Rs. 6,000 was given to Sandeep Kumar. Chinmay Anand Panigrah got Rs 5,000 as the second best intern and Saijeet Pratap Singh got the third award of Rs 4,000.

The interns were given exposure to various aspects of human rights by eminent persons and senior officers of the Commission. They were taken for visits to Central Jail, Mandoli, Delhi, District Jail Dasna, Ghaziabad, and five Delhi Police Stations. They also made presentation on their visits and prepared research studies on various aspects of human rights.
