Patna : New Zealand defeated West Indies (WI) by an innings and 67 runs on the fourth day in the first cricket test at Basin Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand, on December 4, 2017. New Zealand paceman Neil Wanger was declared Man of the Match having taken 9 wickets in the test.
West Indies had made 134 runs in their first innings with Wagner taking 7/39. Replying to that New Zealand declared their first innings 520/9 with all rounder Collin de Grandhomme scoring 105 in 74 balls, Roass Taylor 97, Henry Nicholls 67, Jeet Raval 42, Tom Latham 37 and wicketkeeper T Blundell an unbeaten 107, his test century on debut. Captain Kane Williamson was out for one to Kemar Roach. For West Indies Kemar Roach took 3/85, M Cummins 2/92, Roston Chase 2/95, J Holder 1/102 and S Gabriel 1/90.
West Indies were all out for 319 in their second innings on December 4 with Kraig Brathwaite scoring 91, K Powell 40, S Hetmyer 66, Shai Hope 37, R Chase 18, S W Ambris 18 and M Cummins 14. For New Zealand, M Henry took 3/57, Grandhomme 2/40, T Boult 2/87, Neil Wagner 2/102 and M Satner 1/ 25. West Indies had resumed the fourth day on their overnight score of 212/2 but were all out for 319 after lunach.
