Patna : New Zealand (NZ) crushed Sri Lanka (SL) ten wickets in the 3rd match of ICC World Cup at Sohia Gardens, Cardiff, UK, on June 1, 2019, with openers Martin Guptil and Colin Munro scoring an unbeaten 73 and 58 runs respectively. Replying to Sri Lanka’s 136 all out in 29.2 over, NZ raced to 137 /0 in just 16.1 over. Guptil scored 73 in 51 balls hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes while Munro scored 58 in 47 balls with 6 fours and a six. Matt Henry was declared Player of the Match. NZ had won the toss and opted to bowl.

Earlier, in a shoddy display of batting, Sri Lanka were all out for 136 only with opener Dimuth Karunaratne (captain) scoring an unbeaten 52 in 84 balls hitting 4 fours while Kusal Perera  (wk) scored 29 in 24 balls with 4 fours. Kusal Mendis fell to fast bowler Matt Henry for a duck while Dhananjaya de Silva fell to fast bowler Lockie Ferguson for 4. All-rounder Angelo Mathews fell to Colin de Grandhomme for  a duck while Jevan Mendis fell to Ferguson for 1. Thisara Perera, who scored 27 in 23 balls with 2 sixes, fell to off spinner Mitchell Santner. Lasitha Malinga fell to Ferguson for 1.

For NZ, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each in a devastating display of fast bowling. Henry took 3/29 in 7 overs while Ferguson took 3/22 in 6-2 overs. Trent Boult took 1/44 in 9 overs. Colin de Grandhomme, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner took one wicket each.
