Patna : New Zealand beat Pakistan by 47 runs in the first ODI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 7, 2018, late night, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Opting to bat after winning the toss, New Zealand scored 266/9 riding on 80 by Ross Taylor and 68 by wicketkeeper Tom Latham. Pacer Shaheen Afridi and spinner Shadab Khan took four wickets each.

Chasing a target of 267, New Zealand were all out for 219 in 47.2 overs with captain Sarfraz Ahmed scoring 64 and Imad Wasim 50. Fast bowlers Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets each while Colin de Granhomme took 2 wickets. Boult took a hat-trick. The second ODI is scheduled for November 9, 2018.
