New Zealand beat England by 3 wickets in 1st ODI at Hamilton

Patna : New Zealand defeated England by three wickets in the first of the five-match ODI series at Seddon Park, Hamilton, New Zealand, on February 25, 2018. Replying to England’s 284/8 in 50 overs, New Zealand made 287/7 in 49.2 overs riding on a brilliant 113 in 116 balls including 12 fours by former Captain Ross Taylor and 79 in 84 balls including 6 fours by wicketkeeper Tom Latham.

Spinner Mitchell Santner also scored an unbeaten 45 in 27 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Openrs Martin Guptil and Colin Munro scored 13 and 6 runs respectively while Captain Kane Williamson made 8.

For England, Ben Stokes, who made a comeback to international cricket with this ODI, and Chris Woakes took two wickets each while D Willey, Tom Curran and A Rashid took one wicket each.

Earlier, asked to bat first by New Zealand, who won the toss, England scored 284/8 with Joe Root making 71 in 75 balls hitting 5 fours and a six and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler making 79 in 65 balls hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes. Opener Jason Roy made 49 in 66 balls hitting 5 fours and a six. All rounder Moen Ali made 28 in 26 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. England Captain Eoin Morgan was out for 8. England had recently defeated Australia 4-1 in an ODI series.

For New Zealand, fast bowler Trent Boult and spinners: Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi, took two wickets each. Colin Munro took one wicket. Jos Buttler was run out. Ross Taylor was declared Player of the Match.
