Patna : Neeraj Chopra, 20, India, won Gold Medal for the country in Javelin throw at the 18th Asian Games at Jakarta- Palembang, Indonesia, on August 27, 2018, setting a new national record. Chopra won the Gold with a huge throw of 88.06m in his third attempt. He missed the Asian Games record by 1.09m. India had last won a medal in the event in 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.

In his first attempt, Neeraj had a throw of 83.46m  and 83.25m 86.26m in 4th & 5th attempts respectively. His second throw was declined by the match officials. It was India’s second Gold in athletics. It was also India’s first Gold in Javelin throw at the Asian Games. Neerah hails from village Khandra, Panipat, Haryana, and is a product of DV College, Chandigarh. He had also won Gold Medal in Javelin throw at 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia.
