Patna : Nearly 5 crore people formed over 18,000 km long Human Chain from 11.30 am to 12 noon across Bihar under ‘Jal Jeevan Hariyali’ programme on January 19, 2020, responding to the call of CM Nitish Kumar to support his government’s efforts towards environment conservation and eradication of social evils. CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, and several ministers participated in the Human Chain at Patna Gandhi Maidan on the day.
A 55-year-old government teacher and a woman, however, died in the state while taking part in a human chain. Mohammad Daud died at Keoti area in Darbhanga District while a woman died in Samastipur District, both in North Bihar. “Both died due to heart attack,” according to Bihar Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar. He said said an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each will be paid to the family of the two deceased. ” The next of kin of Mohammad Daud, who taught at a government Urdu medium school in Darbhanga, will get all the benefits to which kin of state employees are entitled to,” he said.
Daud fell ill and collapsed while he was standing in the human chain, according to District Magistrate, Darbhanga, Thyagarajan S M. Daud was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The opposition parties including the RJD slammed the state government for spending a huge amount on organising the human chain. It is waste of public money, the RJD said. But, State JD(U) President Bashistha Narayan Singh, MP, said that the event had created awareness about environment conservation and would inspire the coming generation.
