Motihari  : Timely action taken by an alert Headmaster of Middle School, Nawada, under Kotawa  police station in East Champaran District in North Bihar saved lives of several school-children on February 10, 2020, as some unidentified miscreants had mixed poison into a Handpump  and  in rice bags meant for  Mid- day Meal (MDM) kept at school. Kotawa  police is investigating into the incident. The school was closed and the students were sent back  homes by the  Headmaster of the school.

Headmaster, Upgraded Nawada Middle School under Machhargawa  panchayat, Ashok Kumar,  said that on February 10, 2020, as soon as  he reached the school he saw some Green Powder scattered  on Verandah  and  near Handpump of the school. He along with some teachers  alerted  the students asking them not to touch the  powder. One of a teacher took a glass of water from  Handpump and found it suspicious . Meanwhile, the news spread at village  and the  villagers  assembled at the school  and  the farmers identified  the Green Powder as  Furadan, an Insecticide.

SDPO, Motihari, Motihari, Shaishav  Yadav, said  HM Kumar has lodged a case  with Kotawa PS in this connection and  police were probing into the incident.

HM Ashok Kumar that he informed Kotawa police and  the  higher officials of education department about the incident. Rajiv Kumar, a Junior Sub Inspector,  reached in school and collected the  poison for its chemical examination . It is suspected that  some persons had mixed  the poison in rice bags which were kept there  for MDM.
