Nadal to face Medvedev in Rogers Cup final

Patna : Top seed and World No 2 Rafael Nadal, Spain, will face 8th seed Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, in the final of Rogers Cup, an ATP Masters 1,000 point tournament, at Montreal, Canada, at 1.30 am on August 12, 2019.

Defending champion Nadal, who is bidding for his 35th ATP Masters 1,000 title, entered the final after his semi-final opponent and World No 20 Gael Monfils, 32, France, withdrew from the contest before the match due to ankle injury. By reaching final, Nadal has ensured he would retain his World No 2 position when the next ATP standing is released on August 12, 2019.

Monfils had defeated World No 13 Roberto Bautista Agut, 31, Spain, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in the quarter-finals in 2 hr 24 minutes on August 10, 2019, late night.

World No 9 Medvedev defeated World No 8 Karen Khachanov, 23, in an all Russian semi-final match 6-1, 7-6 in 83 minutes. Medvedev won 4 break points to 2 by Khachanov. Both the players served 4 Aces each in the match. Medvedev won 44 service points to 28 by Khachanov.
