Patna : World No 2 and winner of 17 Grand Slam singles title Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, World No 4 and winner of 20 Grand Slam titles Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, and World No 9 John Isner, 33, USA, demolished their respective 3rd round opponents to storm into the 4th round of ATP Indian Wells Masters 2019 at California, USA, on March 13, 2019.
Nadal beat World No 26 Diego Schwartzman, 26, Argentina, 6-3, 6-1 in the Round of 32. Nadal, a three-time champion here, broke Schwartzman’s service 4 times in the match besides winning 7 games in a row. Nadal served 3 Aces in the match to none by Schwartzman. Nadal’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve (81% & 73%) was much better than that of Schwartzman (56% & 40 %). Schwartzman committed 3 double faults to 1 by Nadal, who will face World No 113 Filip Krajinovic, 27, Serbia, a qualifier, in the 4th round.
Federer, a five-time champion here, beat World No 40 and winner of 3 Grand Slam singles title Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, 6-3, 6-4 in the 3rd round.Federer’s winning percentage on his first serve ( 82%) was much better than that of Wawrinka (59%). But, Wawrinka’s winning percentage on second serve (77%) was slightly better that of Federer ( 75%). Federer broke Wawrinka’s service twice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row.
Isner beat World No 34 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the 4th round. Isner broke Pella’s service twice in the match besides firing 7 Aces. Isner also won 3 games in a row. Isner’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 87 % & 82%) was much better than that of Pella ( 62% & 58 %). Isner will face World No 13 Karen Khachanov, 22, Russia, in the 4th round.
