Patna : World No 39 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 35, Germany, stunned World No 1 and winner of 15 Grand Slam singles title Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, in straight games in the Round of 32 of ATP Indian Wells Masters at California, USA, on March 12, 2019, late night. Kohlschreiber defeated top seed Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 in the third round in the biggest upset in the tournament.

Kohlschreiber broke five-time champion Djokovic’s service thrice in the match while the latter broke his service only once. Kohlschreiber served 3 Aces to 2 by Djokovic. Kohlschreiber’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (69 % & 56%) was better than that of Djokovic (68% & 50 %). Kohlschreiber won three games in a row in the match to 2 by Djokovic.

It was Kohlschreiber’s second victory over Djokovic in 10 matches. He had last defeated Djokovic in 2009 in French Open third round. Djokovic now leads Kohlschreiber 8-2 head to head. Djokovic had lost to qualifier Taro Daniel, 26, Japan, in the second round of Indian Wells Masters in 2018.
