Patna : Top seed and winner of 19 Grand Slam singles titles Rafael Nadal, 34, Spain, annihilated top seed and winner of 17 Grand Slam titles Novak Djokovic, 33, Serbia, in the men’s singles final on Philippe-Chatrier Court, Roland Garros, Paris, France, on October 11, 2020, night, to win his 13th French Open title, to equal Roger Federer’s (Switzerland) record of 20 Grand Slam singles title. Nadal crushed Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in final to win the French Open title without dropping a set in the tournament.
It was 56th match between Djokovic and Nadal. The Serbian, however, still leads Nadal 29-27 Head to Head. Nadal was all over Djokovic in the first two sets breaking his service thrice in first set and twice in second set. Djokovic put up some resistance in the third set though even breaking Nadal’s service once. But, Nadal broke Djokovic’s service twice in the third set too to win it 7-5.
The King of Clay Nadal won 7 break points in the match to just 1 by Djokovic. The Spainiard, in all, won 106 points in the match to 77 by the Serbian. Nadal won 6 games in a row in the match to 2 by Djokovic. The Spainiard fired 4 Aces to just 1 by Djokovic. The Serbian committed 4 double faults to 1 by the Spainiard. Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second ( 67% & 68%) was much better than that of Djokovic’s (50% & 55%). Nadal clinched the match with an Ace.
Djokovic had said before the match that the condition did not favour Nadal as much as when the French Open is played in May-June. Djokovic had also fancied his chances in a guarded way. But, his coach Goran Ivanasevic had openly said before the match that Djokovic will defeat Nadal.
