Nadal, A Zverev, del Porto, Kyrgios enter 2nd round of Wimbledon 2018

Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and number 2 seed Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, World No 4 Juan Martin del Porto, World No 52 Frances Tiafoe, 20, USA, and World No 18 Nick Kyrgios, 23, Australia, entered the second round of Wimbledon tennis championship 2018 on July 3, 2018.

Nadal beat Dudi Sela, 33, Israel, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round at the Centre Court. Nadal fired only 3 Aces in the match compared to 5 by Sela. Both players committed 4 double faults each. But, Nadal’s winning percentage on both first and second serve was much better than that of his rival. Nadal won 6 breaks points to just 1 by Sela. But, Matthew Ebden, 30, Australia, upset World No 9 David Goffin, 27, Belgium, in the first round.

Zverev defeated World No 748 James Duckworth, 26, Australia, 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. Zverev fired 9 Aces in the match to 8 by Duckworth, who committed 4 double faults. Zverev won 6 break points.

Fifth seed del Porto defeated World No 39 Peter Gojowczyk, 28, Germany, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round on Court 3. del Porto hammered 19 Aces in the match compared to 3 by Gojowczyk. Gojowczyk committed 4 double faults to just 2 by del Porto, who won 4 break points. del Porto’s winning percentage on both first and second serve was also much higher than that of his rival.

Kyrgios, the 15th seed, beat World No 92 Denis Istomin, 31, Uzbekistan, in a four set thriller 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. Kyrgios hammered 42 Aces in he match compared to just 6 by Istomin. But, Kyrgios also committed 6 double faults to just 2 by Istomin.

Tiafoe defeated World No 34 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 to enter the second round. Verdasco fired 22 Aces in the match to 10 by Tiafoe. Both the players won 2 break points each.

World No 1 Diego Schwartzman, 25, Argentina, entered the second round defeating World No 78 Mirza Basic, 26, Bosnia&  Herzegovina, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. Both the players committed 4 fouble faults each in the match.
