The locals blocked the NH raising slogans against police to register their protest against the death of Kantlal after police assault. They were demanding presence of Muzaffarpur DM on the spot. DSP, East, Muzaffarpur, and Inspector, Katra, reached spot and announced suspension of SHO, Katra police station, Ratna Kumar Yadav, to pacify the angry mob. The body was later sent for post-mortem to SKMCH, Muzaffarpur.

The police action followed the love marriage of Kantlal Mahto’s son Guddu with a girl of neighbouring village Kothia in the district. Police reached Katlal’s house on October 15 night searching for his son and the girl following complaint lodged by the girl’s family members. When police failed to locate Guddu and the girl, they started beating Kantlal and when his wife tried to save him she was pushed aside in the presence of the SHO.
