Muzaffarpur: A war of attrition going on between the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation (MMC) has started affecting the development works. Both of them are working to oust each other. Both the groups are levelling corruption charges against each other. City Commissioner Rajesh Prasad Ranjan said that the differences between the two was political in nature but all the development works have stopped due to it.

MMC sources said that former Muzaffarpur MLA Vijendra Chaudhary still weilds influence in the corporation affairs while the present BJP legislator Suresh Sharma has virtually no say in the corporation matters. Sources said that ever since Deputy Mayor Majid Hussain has fallen out from Chaudhary camp, efforts are being made to oust him through no-confidence motion.

Earlier, a no confidence motion was moved against Mayor Varsha Singh by several ward councillors but it is gathering dust. But, When LED scam involving huge amount came to surface,  a no confidence motion was moved against deputy mayor Majid by 38 ward councillors. Majid, on the hand hand, has said that the corporation should first discuss the no confidence motion moved against Mayor Varsha Singh. He says ever since LED scam came to surface, a move has begun to oust him. Mayor Varsha Singh and Chaudhary appear reluctant to speak on the matter. Meanwhile, the Mayor has directed the City Commissioner to convene a meeting to discuss no confidence motion against deputy mayor.
