Munger: Trade agreements between India and China regarding some goods notwithstanding, markets across the state are flooded with smuggled Chinese goods including mobile sets of different varieties affecting the economy of the state. Munger police nabbed about a dozen smugglers who had stocked about six hundred pieces of new China made mobile sets from Durga Rest House located in Bara bazar area under Kotwali police station in Munger town.

Munger SP Ashish Bharti briefing mediamen on Sunday evening said that on a secret information, police raided the rest house on Saturday night and seized the sealed packets of mobile sets which were packed in half a dozen plastic bags in the rooms of the rest house. The arrested young smugglers hailing from different districts of the state including Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Sahebganj,Lakhisarai besides Munger were staying in the rest house guarding their stock for sale and disposal among the Munger electronic dealers .The demands of the consignment were made by the local electronic dealers via smugglers , sources said. The SP said that the price of the entire stock of the seized cellphones may be more than Rs 10 lakh after verification of the prices which are not mentioned on the sealed packets of the mobile sets.

The SP said that one member of the gang managed to escape but his identity had been established by the arrested members of the gang and police were conducting raids to arrest him. Sources said that Chinese made mobiles are sold by the dealers to the customers without providing any receipt or warranty card. The customers have to pay the price as demanded by the dealers who allegedly realise fifty percent more than they pay to the smugglers. Sources said Chinese mobiles have many entertaining features including camera, sound recording, typing messages which attract the youngsters.
