Munger DM seeks report from Civil Surgeon regarding death of a Jr Engr

Munger: Munger DM Uday Kumar Singh has taken serious note of the death of a junior power engineer Manoj Kumar Jha at  Munger sadar hospital on Thursday for want of proper treatment. The DM has sought a detail report from the civil surgeon in this regard,  said sadar sub-divisional officer Dr Kundan Kumar. Jha, who  was posted at Gaya, was allegedly not treated at the sadar hospital and was instead referred to Patna Medical college and hospital (PMCH)  after he was rushed there. He was seriously injured in a road  accident at Munger on Thursday morning.

DM  Singh said he has asked the medical officers, who were present at the hospital when Jha was brought there in a serious condition, to show cause. “If their show cause were not found satisfactory, stern action would be taken against them besides a recommendation will be sent to the Medical Council of India (MCI) for cancellation of their licenses,” he said.  That apart, the DM has asked the civil surgeon, Munger, to furnish him figures with names and addresses of the patients referred to other places by the medical officers posted at  sadar hospital during the last three years even as the sadar hospital has a well equipped  operation theatre and specialists in surgery.

Munger police have instituted an FIR against three medical officers of Munger sadar hospital including surgeon Dr Ramprit Singh, physician Dr K Ranjan and Dr Ajay Kumar for alleged negligence in treatment of Jha. Jha, a junior power engineer, was a resident of village Garhi under Naya Ramnagar police station  in Munger district. He had come home recently. While returning home from market, he was involved a road accident on Thursday and brought to sadar hospital in a very serious condition. But the doctors present at the hospital in emergency room instead of treating  Jha, referred him to PMCH which was opposed by his attendants who wanted the doctors to treat him at sadar hospital.

Jha succumbed to his injuries after a few hours in the emergency room which sparked violence and a mob ransacked the emergency room of the hospital damaging the glasspanes and medical instruments. The doctors and para medical staff ran for safety. The situation was brought under control after police and a magistrate rushed there .The wife of the deceased engineer Nibha Devi lodged an FIR with the police alleging utter negligence by the doctors resulting in the death of her husband. She named three doctors in this regard.      SHO, Kotwali police station,  Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that an FIR had been lodged against three doctors of the sadar hospital.
