Munger : The vigilance committee constituted by an adhoc executive body of Munger district bar association, at an ermergent meeting on Friday,  decided to work in tandem with the Bar Council of India (BCI) in weeding out ‘fake’ lawyers. The meeting followed receipt of the copy of a letter addressed to the chief justice, Patna high court, by the BCI  on May 19, 2016, on Thursday.

The BCI letter mentions about Certificate and place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015, framed by the council to weed out fake advocates and lawyers from Bihar and other states. The Patna high court has been  requested by the BCI to order an inquiry into the matter. “The council has got the information that in most of the district /Taluka courts, the non-practicing advocates are adopting an illegal device and putting their signatures over some old vakalatnamas filed by other advocates and this corrupt practice is being done in connivance with the concerned staff of civil courts. Several thousands of such cases are reported to have come to the notice of Bar Council of India. This is frustrating the very object of the Rules. The rules have been allowed to be implemented strictly by the Supreme Court of India,” says the BCI letter.

Abhimanyu Mandal, secretary, adhoc committee of Munger district bar association, issuing a signed press release, said  on Friday today that a vigilance committee has been formed to inquire thoroughly the fake advocates practicing in Munger court. Mandal said that the  vigilance probe body would also inquire into the reports that duplicate format of Affidavit authored by the Bar asociation, were allegedly sold by a few stamp vendors, book -sellers, some advocates and notray officers. After submission of inquiry report, appropriate action will be taken against them, said the press release. Ramcharitra Yadav, former member of the state bar council, Yadunandan Jha, former president of Munger district bar association,Rajkumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Sinha, members of the vigilance committee, participated at the meeting.
