Patna: JD (U) president Nitish Kumar on Monday said Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh was feeling the curse of people of Bihar for betraying the trust reposed in him during the last elections. His family and party is facing disintegration and revolt because of the curse of the people of Bihar, Nitish said while delivering the presidential address at Rajgir in Nalanda district, where the two-day national council meet of JD(U) concluded on Monday.
Nitish said the non-BJP parties had projected Mulayam as their leader, authorised him to name the new party symbol as even the JD(U) had agreed for merger with the party of Mulayam. But, he ditched at the last minute and backed out of the promise to lead the new group. He betrayed the people of Bihar during last assembly elections as
well. Nitish, however, praised his UP counterpart Akhilesh Yadav and said he was doing excellent work and supported well his campaign for prohibition. He is leading UP towards development, Nitish said.
On the controversial issue of Triple talaq, Nitish said the union government should not interfere in the personal mattes of Muslims and the Muslim women should be allowed to have their freedom on the issue. It should not be politicised, he said.
Meanwhile, four state units of JD(U) :Madhya Pradesh,Uttarakhand, Dehi and West Bengal, on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India in New Delhi demanding declartion of Nitish Kumar’s election as party president as void. They also sat on dharna at Jantar Mandir and said Nitish Kumar’s election was unconstutional. The JD(U) at its meeting on Sunday had authorised Nitish to amend the party constitution. Under the Loktantra Bachao Andolan, Govid Yadav(MP), Amitava Datta (West Bengal), Pranod Sharm (Uttarakhand) and Thakur Balbir Singh(Delhi) demanded re-election of JD(U) president.
