Mother of three kids burnt to death at Saharsa village, no arrest

Saharsa : Nutan Devi, who was married to Kundan Sah of village Manori under Sonbersa Raj police station in Saharsa district six years back and had three children, was burnt to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws on June 18, 2017.

Nutan was allegedly set ablaze for opposing her husband’s illicit relation with a woman, a close relative. Her mother Rukmini Devi lodged an FIR with Sonbersa Raj police station against five persons including Kundan Sah and his family members Laxman Sah and Biren Sah charging them with killing Nutan but police are yet to arrest them.

Rukmini alleged that police were shielding the accused instead of arresting them. She has threatened to meet CM Nitish Kumar to seek justice if police fail to arrest the accused without delay. Nutan’s mother and elder sister Mamta, who is also married at village Manori, tried to meet the DSP, Simribakhtiarpur, Ajay Narayan Yadav, on June 22 but he was not present at his office. Nutan belonged to village Govindpur under Sahebpurkamal police station in Begusarai district. Mamta had arranged Nutan’s marriage at Manori.

Nutan’s eldest child Sakshi, 5, said that her father had set her mother ablaze after tying her hands and legs with ropes. Rukmini said that Kundan informed her on June 18 that Nutan died in an accidental fire caused by gas stove. She alleged that by the time she reached Manori, Nutan’s burnt body had disappeared from her house.
