Aurangabad: Mre than 10 persons including six students of Government school, Chanda, were drowned when a boat capsized in river Punpun near village Kalen under Ddaundnagar sub-division of Aurangabad district. The boat was going to Kalen carrying the passengers from village Khudowa.

Aurangabad DM Kanwal Tanuj along with Daudnagar SDM Rakesh Kumar and SDPO rushed to spot to make an on the spot inquiry into the incident besides seeking information from Block Development Officer (BDO) and Circle Officer (CO) concerned. The DM confirmed death of one person till the filling of the report and said ten persons were missing. He said that sensing the gravity of situation State Disaster Relief Forces (SDRF) along with more boats have been called to expedite the rescue and relief operation. DM Tanuj  said that the deceased was yet to be identified. Four persons have been rescued and efforts were on to save more  people. He said the dependent of deceased would get a compensation Rs .4 lakh.

Meanwhile, over hundred villagers assembled on spot demanding construction of a bridge over the river. The DM pacified them by saying that he would discuss the matter with officials of the department concerned. A villager said that had there been a bridge over the river the the incident would not have taken place.
