Patna : World No 1 Kento Momota, Japan, and World No 2 Shi Yuqi, China, will clash in the final of Badminton Asia Championships 2019 at Wuhan, China, on April 28, 2019.

Top seed Momota beat World No 75 Tien Minh Nguyen, 36, Vietnam, 21-18, 21-8 in 45 minutes in the semi-finals at Wuhan Sports Center, China, on April 27, 2019. Momota won 42 rallies in the match to 26 by Nguyen. He won 7 consecutive points to 4 by Nguyen. The two players are now locked 3-3 head to head.

Second seed She Yuqi beat World No 5 Chou Tien Chen, Taiwan, the 3rd seed, 22-20, 21-18 in 46 minutes in the semi-finals on April 27. Yuqi won 43 rallies in the match to 38 by Chen. He won 5 consecutive points to 7 by Chen. Yuqi now leads Chen 5-2 head to head.

In the women’s section, World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, will clash with World No 7 He Bingjiao, China, in the final on April 28.

Third seed Yamaguchi beat World No 3 Chen Yufei, China,  the top seed, 15-21, 21-16, 21-17 in 60 minutes in the semi-finals. Bingjiao, the 5th seed, beat World No 17 Cai Yanyan, China,  8-21, 21-12, 21-17 in 49 minutes in the semi-finals.
