Patna : World No 9 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Kidambi Srikanth, 25, India, and World No 17 Sameer Verma, 24, India, raced past their respective opponents to enter the second round of Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2018, a BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament, on November 14, 2018.
Fourth seed Srikanth beat World No 34 Wong Wing Ki Vincent, 28, Hong Kong, 21-11, 21-15 in 32 minutes in the first round. Srikanth won 42 rallies in the match to 26 by Vincent. Srikanth now leads Vincent 8-2 head to head.
Sameer Verma beat World No 21 Suppanyu Avihingsanon, 29, Thailand, 21-17, 21-14 in 40 minutes in the first round. Sameer won 42 rallies in the match to 31 by Avihingsanon. Sameer won 5 consecutive points compared to 4 by Avinhingsanon.
World No 23 H S Prannoy, India, 26, beat World No 19 Anders Antonsen, 21, Denmark, in a tough three-game contest 21-14, 13-21, 21-19 in 66 minutes in the first round. Prannoy won 55 rallies to 54 by Antonsen. Prannoy won 5 consecutive points during the match compared to 4 by Antonsen. Prannoy leads Antonsen 2-0 head to head.
But, Parupalli Kashyap, 32, India, a qualifier, lost to World No 7 Anthony Sinisuka Jinting, 22, Indonesia, in straight games 16-21, 13-21 in 35 minutes in the first round. Ginting leads Kashyap 2-0 head to head.
World No 15 Khosit Phetpradab, 24, Thailand, beat World No 24 B Sai Praneeth, 26, India, in a tough three-game thriller 16-21, 21-11, 21-15 in 62 minutes in the first round. Phetpradab won 58 rallies in the match to 47 by Praneeth. Both the players won 5 consecutive points each during the match. Praneeth though still leads Phetpradab 3-1 head to head.
World No 1 Kento Momota, 24, Japan, beat two-time former Olympic Champion World No 13 Lin Dan, 35, China, in three-games 21-19, 12-21, 21-15 in 74 minutes in the first round. Momota won 54 rallies in the match to 55 by Lin Dan, a five-time former World Champion. Both the players won 6 consecutive points each during the match. Momota now leads Dan 3-1 head to head.
