Patna : Reigning World Champion and top seed Kento Momota, 24, Japan, and World No 19 B Sai Praneeth, 27, India, entered the semi-finals of BWF World Championships at Basel, Switzerland, on August 23, 2019, night.

World No 1 Momota beat World No 13 Lee Zii Jia, 22, Malaysia,  21-12, 21-8 in 37 minutes in quarter-finals at St Jakobshalle, Basel. He won 42 rallies in the match to 20 by the Malaysian. Momota also won 8 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Lee. Momota now leads Lee 3-0 Head to Head.

Praneeth upset reigning Asian Games Champion  and World N0 4 Jonatan Christie,21,  Indonesia, also known as ‘Jojo’,  in a tough contest 24-22, 21-14 in 51 minutes in quarter-finals. Praneeth won 45 rallies in the match to 36 by Christie. He also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Christie. The two players are now locked 2-2 Head to Head.
