Patna : World No 1 Kento Momota, Japan, beat World No 7 Kidambi Srikanth, India, in a tough three-game contest to enter the semi-finals of Singapore Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 category tournament, at Indoor Stadium Singapore, Singapore, on April 12, 2019.
Top seed Momota beat Srikanth 21-18, 19-21, 21-9 in 67 minutes in the quarter-finals on April 12. Momota won 61 rallies in the match to 48 by Srikanth. He also won 13 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Srikanth. Momota now leads Srikanth 12-3 head to head.
World No 4 Chou Tien Chen, Taiwan, the 2nd seed, also entered the SFs of the tournament defeating World No 16 Sameer Verma, India, 21-10, 15-21, 21-15 in 69 minutes in the QFs. Chen won 57 rallies in the match to 46 by Sameer. He also won 6 consecutive points to 4 by Sameer. Chen now leads Sameer Verma 2-0 head to head.
World No 3 Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, the 3rd seed, advanced to the SFs defeating World No 8 Jonatan Christie, Indonesia, 22-24, 21-18, 24-22 in the QFs on April 12. Jonatan Christie had defeated Axelsen in QFs of Malaysia Open 2019 on April 5, 2019.
World No 9 Anthony Sinisuka Jinting, Indonesia, also entered the SFs beating reigning Olympic champion and World No 5 Chen Long, China, 21-8, 21-19 in 42 minutes in the QFs.
