Patna : World No 1 and top seed Kento Momota, Japan, World No 18 Tommy Sugiarto, Indonesia, World No 27 Jan O Jorgensen, Denmark, and World No 9 Anders Antonsen, Denmark, reached the quarter-finals of Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, at Tokyo, Japan, on July 25, 2019.
Top seed Momota beat World No 16 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Thailand, 21-12, 21-13 in 47 minutes in the second round at Musashino Forest SportPlaza, Tokyo. Momota won 42 rallies to 25 by Wangcharoen. He also won 7 consecutive points to 3 by Wangcharoen. Momota had lost in the 2nd round of Indonesia Open.
Sugiarto beat World No 28 Wong Wing Ki Vincent, Hong Kong, 21-16, 21-17 in 45 minutes in the second round while Jorgensen upset World No 4 Chou Tien Chen, Chinese Taipei, the 4th seed, in three games 21-19, 11-21, 21-19 in 68 minutes in the 2nd round. Chou Tien Chen had won Indonesia Open last week. World No 8 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Indonesia, beat World No 21 Sittikom Thammasin, Thailand, 20-22, 21-17, 21-6 in 64 minutes to reach the QFs.
World No 34 H S Prannoy, India, lost to World No 26 Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, 21-9, 21-15 in 48 minutes in the 2nd round. World No 9 Antonsen beat World No 31 lee Cheuk Yiu, Hong Kong, in a three-game thriller 13-21, 21-15, 21-16 in 77 minutes in the 2nd round to reach QFs. Antonsen had reached final of Indonesia Open last week.
