Patna : Fast rising tennis player Sasi Kumar Mukund, 21, India, entered the quarter-finals of KPIT -MSLTA Challenger at Pune, Maharashtra, on November 21, 2018, when his second round opponent and World No 181 in ATP rankings Jay Alexander Clarke, 20, UK, retired in the third set due to injury trailing 1-4.
Clarke had won the first set 7-5 but World No 355 Mukund staged a strong comeback to win the second 6-4. He was leading 4-1 in the third set when Clarke retired. Mukund won 5-7, 6-4, 4-1. Mukund had upset World No 265 Saketh Myneni, 31, India, in the first round. Myneni had finished runners-up at the ATP Challenger Bangalore recently. Mukund had also reached quarter-finals of ATP Challenger Bangalore. In fact, he had retired due to injury before his quarter-finals match at Bangalore on November 15, 2018.
World No 186 Aleksandr Nedovyesov, 31, Kazakhstan, also entered the quarter-finals defeating World No 613 Ben Patael, 21, Israel, 7-5, 6-4 in the second round on November 21, 2018.
