Nawada: Nawada town, miscreants smashed the head of Aurangzeb, a policeman on duty near Sankatmochan, a famous temple of Lord Hanuman around April 5, 2017, midnight merely a few hundred meters from the official residences of the Nawada DM and SP indicating situation was still tense in Nawada town. The incident ‘disrupted’ the ‘prayers’ of the Nawada civil SDO Rajesh Kumar and SDPO Sanjay Pandey who were praying with upturned palms sporting skull caps on their heads in adjacent mazar of the famous Sufi saint Jalaluddin Bukari. The duo rushed the bleeding constable to Nawada sadar hospital.

To stop malicious rumours and circulation of disturbing messages on Facebook and Whatsapp, internet services across the district were pulled of the air since April 6 afternoon in the town on the orders of the DM. Senior officials such as ADG Gupteshwar Pandey, IG Naiyyar Husnain Khan, Magadh division Commissioner Lyan Kunga and range DIG Saurabh Kumar rushed to the town. Also 5 companies of additional forces including three paramilitary, were dispatched to Nawada.

DM Manoj Kumar while addressing a presser on April 6 said that he had assured a delegation of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists that the administration would provide protection to the Ram Naumi processionists on April 7 between 2 and 6 pm and also allowed them the use of DJs (disc jockey) throughout. However, he cautioned them that singing of vulgar item numbers would be not allowed during the procession..

On April 6 early morning, Nawada district VHP and Bajrang Dal conveners, Raj Kumar and Jitendra Kumar respectively, had resorted to Gandhigiri when they pulled down all flags and posters of Lord Ram and announced that April 7’s Ram Naumi procession would be called off as a mark of protest against the high-handedness of the administration against their activists whose saffron attires had proved to be a virtual red flag to the cops. Many had been unnecessary been beaten up and arrested by the cops for wearing saffron shirts or kurtas.  Later, on the assurance of the DM and the SP that they would be released, they again hoisted the banners, posters and cutouts of Lord Ram.

SP Vikash Burman said that while 30 persons were arrested for rioting and creating communal disturbances, 9 were let off after being found innocent. Despite repeated attempts zonal IG Nayyar Husnain Khan and DIG Saurabh Kumar did not meet the delegation of mediapersons at Nawada Circuit House on April 6.
