Patna : Three times IPL champion Mumbai Indians (MI) scored a modest 165/4 in 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on April 7, 2018, courtesy some brilliant batting by Surya Kumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya. Captain Rohit Sharma was out for 15 in 18 balls with a four and a six. It is the first match of IPL 2018.

Surya Kumar Yadav made 43 in 29 balls with 6 fours and a six while Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten on 41 in 22 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan made 40 in 29 balls with 4 fours and a six. All rounder Hardik Pandya remained not out on 22 in 20 balls with 2 fours. He got injured in the 20th over. The Pandyabrothers were involved in an unbeaten 52 run partnership for the fifth wicket. Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan were involved in a78 run partnership for the third wicket.

For CSK, Australian Shane atson took 2/29 in 4overs while Inran Tahir, South Africa, and Deepak Chahar took one wicket each. England fast bowler Mark Wood leaked 49 runs in his 4 overs. Harbhajan Singh gave 14 runs in 2 overs while Ravindra Jadeja gave 9 runs in one over. Dwayne Bravo gave 25 runs in 4 overs. Two times IPL champion CSK won the toss but opted to bowl first.

Chasing a target of 166, CSK were 7/0 in one over.
