Ara : Hundreds of cooks, under the banner of Bihar State School Cook Association, took out a procession from Eastern Railway Crossing on January 21, 2019, that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town and culminated at Ara railway station where they burnt the effigy of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.

The cooks are on an indefinite strike since January 7, 2019, to press their demands including the status of a government employee, at least Rs 18,000 remuneration per month, social security, issuance of appointment letters, maternity and special leaves, withdrawal Mid-day Meal scheme from the Non-government Organizations and others. Sangeeta Singh, Bhojpur district organisr, Bihar State School Cook Association, said that their agitation would continue till their demands were conceded.
