Ara : At the call of Bhojpur Chemists and Druggists Association, almost all the medicine shops and  private clinics of doctors remained closed in Ara Town on May 30, 2017, to press the association’s 5- point demand.

The demands of the association include ban on online sale of medicines, non- implementation of E-portal business policy in medicine trade without basic infrastructure, and enactment of law for sale and fixation of prices of the medicines and amendment in old drug law.

Jitendra Kumar Singh, district president, Bhojpur Chemist and Druggist Association, criticised the move of the central government to change the drug policy made in the year 1945. The union government has made  qualified pharmacist mandatory in granting drug licenses to wholesale medicine dealers which the association has declared impractical. He said that now readymade medicines were available in the market which are sold on the prescription of doctors and pharmacists. He said that the wholesale dealers had no right to sell medicine on doctors’ prescription hence qualified pharmacist are not needed.
