Nawada: Sixty year old Raju Rajbanshi, a mahadalit of village Taran Bhagalpur under Sirdalla police station (PS) in Nawada district, was brutally beaten to death on Holi festival night ( March 2, 2018) by a group of bootleggers when he and some fellow villagers objected to the teasing of women folk who had ventured out for attending the call of nature.
The accused, all belonging to adjoining Titaiyatand village, 6 km from Sirdalla police station, were under the influence of liquor, according to SHO, Sirdalla Police Station (PS), Raj Kumar Singh. Six other villagers were also injured in the attack and were undergoing
treatment at the local primary health centre (PHC).
The SHO said the accused have been identified as Ashok Yadav, Jamuna Yadav, Dipu Yadav, Navlesh Yadav, Papu Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav. None of the accused has been arrested so far. Efforts to nab them are underway, he said.
A substantial number of men and women villagers in the district irrespective of caste tags, prefer open air to defecate instead of using the toilets built either at their personal cost or under the highly marketed “saat nishchaya” yojna of the Bihar CM. And this is the main reason behind eve-teasing and molestation cases in the rural areas.
