Patna : England beat New Zealand by 4 runs in the third ODI at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand, on March 3, 2018, surging ahead 2-1 in the five-match ODI series. England had lost the first ODI but won the second and third ODIs.
New Zealand won the toss but elected to bowl. Batting first, England scored 234 all out in 50 overs riding on 48 by captain Eoin Morgan and 39 and 29 by all rounder Ben Stokes and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler respectively. Moen Ali was run out for 23 while Joe Root made 20. Chris Woakes made 16 in 15 balls. Three England batsmen : Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, and Mark Wood were run out.
For New Zealand, spinner Ish Sodhi took 3/53 in 10 overs while fast bowler Trent Boult took 2/47 in 10 overs. Tim Southee took 1/48 while Colin de Grandhomme took 1/24 in 10 overs.
In reply, New Zealand scored only 230 for 8 in 50 overs and lost by 4 runs even as captain Kane Williamson made an unbeaten 112, his 11th ODI to, in 143 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Opener Colin Munro made 49 in 62 balls hitting 7 fours while spinner Mitchell Santner was run out for 41 in 54 balls hitting three fours. Opener Martin Guptil was out for three while wicketkeeper Tom Latham was without scoring. Henry Nicholls was also out for duck while all rounder Colin de Grandhomme made 3.
For England, spinner Moeen Ali took 3/36 in 10 overs while Adil Rashid took 2/34 in 10 overs. fast bowler Chris Woakes took 2/40 in 10 overs.
