Saharsa : The court of Madhepura District and Sessions Judge Manmohan Sharan Lal on July 31, 2018, directed DGP, Maharashtra, to issue a warrant of arrest against Chairman of Reliance General Insurance Anil Ambani and also his production before it in a case of non-payment of a claim amount of Rs 18.83 lakh to one Kaushalya Devi of Madhepura district whose son Saini Sah had died in a truck accident in Assam on July 13, 2011.

The Madhepura court had also ordered for payment of interest at the rate of 9 % annually on the amount with effect from August 16, 2016. The court had passed the order on February 28, 2017. Saini Sah was a Khalasi (Helper) of the truck which met with an accident in 2011. The truck was insured with Reliance General Insurance.

Kaushalya Devi had submitted the papers relating to the insurance claim in Madhepura Civil Court in 2011 itself. Her advocate Shyamanand Giri lodged a complaint in 2017 itself when his client was not paid the claim amount despite the court’s February 28, 2017, order. After that, the Madhepura court had served on two notices on Reliance General Insurance asking it pay the amount to Kaushalya Devi but it did not respond to them. Thereafter, Kaushalya Devi’s advocate, through a petition, prayed for the arrest of Anil Ambai. District and Sessions Judge, Madhepura, Manmohan Sharan Lal  allowed the petition.
