Patna: Prof Madhurendra Narain Sinha, head of the department of geology in Patna University, will take over as the next principal of Patna Science College on Friday following superannuation of Prof Ramjatan Sinha who was principal of the college for one month. Prof M N Sinha will be completing 65 years in January next year making his tenure as principal of onlthey four months.
Prof Ramjatan Sinha was head of the department of chemistry in Patna University before taking over as the principal. Both the present and future principals are products of Patna Science College.
In his brief tenure as principal of the college, Ramjatan Sinha had attempted to restore discipline on the campus by ensuring attendance of students in laboratories and classes and providing them facilities at the college office.He used to move on the corridors and fields of the college during class hours to prevent students from loitering on the premises. Ramjatan had prevented entry of outsiders during the working hours on the college sports ground which used to be crowded by outsiders during the day hours too.
He had put check on students and teachers parking their motorcycles and cars outside the parking areas of different departments and wing of the college and cleanliness was arranged on the campus.
It was for the first time in the history of the college that an active politician became principal. He was a minister during 1977-80 Janata Party regime and president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee also in 2003.
Prof M N Sinha was earlier head of geology in B N College and later in post-graduate department of geology. His father  R N Sinha was an IAS officer and held posts of DM of Patna and Begusarai districts in seventies.
