Patna: Former Governor of Assam and Jammu & Kashmir Lt Gen S K Sinha (retd) died after a brief illness at Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi on November 17. He was 92. Gen Sinha, who had joined the
Indian Army in 1943, was ambassador in Nepal also. He had led the Indian troops in 1947 first when Pakistan forces had invaded Kashmir valley.
He had quit the army in protest against his supersession as Army Chief by Gen A S Vaidya and had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections from Patna as an independent candidate. Gen Sinha, who hailed from Danapur in Patna district, is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son Y K Sinha, who is currently ambassador to Sri Lanka. His cremation will take place in New Delhi on Friday. He was admitted tin hospital on November 1 following fracture ooin femur bone and ribs.
PM Narendra Modi while condoling the death of Gen Sinha said a dedicated solider was lost in his death. Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind also mourned Gen Sinha.
