Chhapra :  Lightning killed ten  farmers in riverine area  of  village Sherpur under Muffasil police station in Saran District in North Bihar during hailstorm on April 26, 2020, before noon. Around  35 farmers had taken shelter in a hutment during sudden heavy rains when lightning struck them. Fifteen other farmers sustained serious burn injuries due to the lightning and are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital,  Chhapra.

According to the villagers, the farmers of  three villages  had  gone to diara field to see their vegetable (Parwal) crop when it started raining. They rushed to a hutment located nearby to escape rain.  After sometime lightning struck the hutment. The place of occurrence is around 68 km away from Patna.

All the  injured persons were  taken to Chhapra sadar hospital by police and villagers. After  examination of  injured persons, Dr  Ram Eqbal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of hospital, said that 10 persons had died while 15 persons had sustained serious burn injuries.

The deceased included Nitish Kumar, Sahdeo Kumar, Jitendra Kumar, and Ramnath Rai, all  of village Sherpur village,  Arvind Kumar Singh, Ravindra Rai, Law Bahadur,  and Surendra Singh of Khalpura village, and Chandradeo Rai  of  Bisunpura village. Saran DM Subrat Kumar Sen, who visited the hospital, said  Rs 4lakh would be paid as an ex-gratia to each  deceased.
